If you're willing to live with roommates in one of the boroughs, you can definitely do it. When we moved to NY, my husband didn't have much more experience than you and I was going to school. It was 1997 and he started at $32,000. We did it.
I'd start sending out resumes, hook up with employment agencies and talk to ANYONE you can think of who has any kind of connections. If you're smart and have a good attitude, someone will want you. I think the other people answering are being too negative. You don't have to start in some other city; there are entry level jobs in NY, for Pete's sake.
